Brooklyn-based rock band Book/Spirit has released a new single entitled “Hammock” off their upcoming LP. The song is built around a single image: the earth as hammock, and the quiet defiance of staying in it. The world is loud and the future is unclear, and the band is making music with their friends and leaning into what feels right. The song taps into what much of the culture is feeling these days.
Recorded between March and August 2024 at GB’s Juke Joint in Long Island City, the track was produced and engineered by Colin Mohnacs (The Roots, Lee Fields) and mastered by Felix Davis (Geese, Cameron Winters, Malice K). It’s the band’s first recorded use of a 12-string guitar, giving the track a bright, open quality. It also marks the official debut of bassist Micah Evans as a full member; his post-punk sensibility sharpens the low end. Additional guitars are by Pierre Ratzki, including a solo from his final session with the band.
