Kendra Sheetz The pals in Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures has released a brand new single today entitled “Lady Bathory.” The new song relays the tale of Countess Elizabeth Bathory of Ecsed, a 17th century Hungarian noblewoman and alleged serial killer who inspired several vampire legends and pop culture adaptations.
With Smith’s theatrical, arena-ready flair, the pleasant melody and smooth chord structure of past releases give way to something a bit more abrasive and mechanical, the type of sound in motion that awakens us from a dream with a quick panic and kinetic shock.
Smith shares:
“The song is about confusion. We have come to the point on this planet where we don’t know what’s real or fake anymore. We can’t trust anything we see or hear. Everything is a fucking lie.”
