St Louis punks Fight Back Mountain have released their third full-length album, Death & The Miser. This new record compiles twelve fired-up dispatches that document life on the ground in flyover country. At the album’s core lies lyricist/guitarist Anjelica Aquilino’s dawning realization that everything she was told growing up is no longer true. Her lyrics harness the voices of the disillusioned residents of the Midwest as opportunities dwindle and infrastructure crumble.
Death & The Miser is a deep exploration of where Aquilino and her peers fit into the larger world. The band’s music reflects the highs and lows of their journey toward mental well-being.
Aquilino explains:
“This space is so unpredictable; we go from blizzards, to tornados, to heat waves throughout the year. These unpredictable swings can just make everything feel bigger.”
Vocalist and guitarist Adrian Barnello adds that their hometown of St. Louis, with its faded glory and uncertain future, is “almost a member of the band.”
