Today, we’re stoked to be premiering a brand new single from Philly’s Flatwaves. The song, entitled “Lorraine,” will be featured on the band’s sophomore LP Tell Me Secrets, out soon via Abandoned Everything Records. The new album was recorded by Justin Bartlett at Studio 4, and finds the band continuing its explorations of death and disorientation.
The new song offers a taste of what is to come for Flatwaves, which mostly includes searing guitars and a driving rhythm section, which is sure to leave the listener with impressions of scorched earth and Lynch-ian dream sequences.
Vocalist/Guitarist Tara Sullivan shared the following about the new single:
“‘Lorraine’ is a scrapbook of memories that add up to a well-informed suspicion that guardian angels might be real. Plus, I wanted to write a ‘name song’ and I was obsessed with the name Lorraine for a few months. There was a time in the 1920s, when my grandparents were born, where a lot of kids were named Lorraine. And you know, oddly enough, portions of ‘Lorraine’ and ‘Paloma’ were inspired by moments Allie and I had last time we were on Catalina, a very eerie and magical place. There’s a lot of enchantment out there, and I find that time periods and people that are seemingly long gone are signaling very loudly right now, at least to me. Maybe it’s our collective energies, maybe it’s our guardian angels. That’s ‘Lorraine’.”
