Today, we’re premiering a new track from Munich, Germany’s Model Homes. The band consists of Jason S. Thompson (Little Teeth, ex-The Sky We Scrape) as he describes it “annoying his neighbors by recording at home during the pandemic.”
The new track, entitled “Margarita Pool feat. a Pitbull,” will be featured on an upcoming self-titled release planned for late 2021. As stated above, it was recorded at Jason’s home in Munich and was mixed/mastered by Jakob Braun of The Engine Studios (Munich). The title to the song stems from Jason’s watching and re-watching (and re-watching and re-watching) The Last Man on Earth since the first lockdown in Germany, but it has nothing to do with the lyrics.
Jason explained the legalities of the title:
“The ‘feat. a Pitbull’ part is because I’m an idiot and I thought it would be hilarious to have my friend Sara’s dog (a pitbull) bark at the end of the track so that I could legally call the song ‘Featuring Pitbull’ and see if I could bum out some party fans and wreak havoc on my analytics…
But then the legal team at the distribution company that I use asked me to provide contractual proof of my association with the artist named Pitbull, and that they would then review the documents with Pitbull’s legal council and all of that. So I had to write them back and legally state that I’m an idiot and I thought it would be funny, and also put in writing that ‘I am in no way, shape, or form affiliated with the artist named Pitbull and I don’t claim any partnership with him.’ That’s not an email I ever thought that I’d have to send but here we are.”
And despite all of this, Jason still woke up to 87K streams on the song because Spotify linked the actual Pitbull artist page to his page. even though I credited “a Pitbull” in the song… Spotify linked the actual Pitbull artist account to my page. So I guess his goal to wreak havoc on the analytics worked! Stream the new track below and keep an ear out for the famous ‘a Pitbull.’
