If you’ve been to shows in the sleepy little port town of San Pedro, CA you’ve probably come across Sean Cole. For the last several decades he’s been co-fronting Toys That Kill and playing guitar, bass, and drums in many others including Coma Twins, F.Y.P. and Lemonademakers (with Mike Watt). His long-standing participation in the scene has been that of humility – but his new project, though playfully named CON SHOAL, demands attention.
Cole stated the following:
“I always wanted to have more control over songwriting, but I guess I kind of always found myself in collaborations. It was surprising to me how onboard the guys were to letting me take the wheel – I got to handpick some of the best local musicians and they wanted to play my songs. I’m lucky in that way.”
And he’s not wrong. CON SHOAL boasts a lineup full of other local staples; Mikey Espinoza, Kevin Carle and Ryan Davidson. The four-piece has already sauntered out as far east as Chicago, and has now released a debut EP, The Lost Boys – Session One, soon to be followed by The Lost Boys – Session Two. The songs were produced and recorded locally at Broken Anchor Studios, by the band themselves with the help of Jason Paul.
Stream The Lost Boys – Session One below and, if you’re in the area, check out CON SHOAL at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach, CA on July 31st.
