North Carolina-based femme garage punk band BANGZZ has released their third of four singles off their upcoming album, set to be released later this Spring. The new album is playfully titled Maybe She’s Born with It, Maybe It’s a Trauma Response. It is a nine track follow up to the band’s debut release. The song themes include finding your true authentic self, dissociation and depression, reproductive rights, generational trauma, self worth, abusive relationships, and unlearning all the ways you were taught to shrink yourself.
The new song, entitled “Hypocritical” is a high-energy, cowbell-driven dance-punk track that blends defiance with joy. Written in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, its sharp lyrics challenge the contradiction of a government that preaches freedom while restricting rights—particularly the constitutional right to abortion.
The music video, created with local NC visual artist Anna Lee, draws inspiration from Schoolhouse Rock, using humor and bold visuals to deliver a powerful message on bodily autonomy. Check out the video for “Hypocritical” below and keep checking back for more from BANGZZ!
