Brooklyn, NY’s Early Riser has released a new single off their upcoming album, Big Life, which will be released on October 11th. The band, which includes Mikey Erg (The Ergs), is known for their unique style of cello-driven folky, pop-punk. Teaming up with legendary indie rock producer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Waxahatchee), Big Life is built on fun, fierce, and irresistibly catchy sing-along anthems.
On their lead single, “Strays”, the band cranks up the energy as they sing about recovering from a toxic relationship. The track perfectly captures the struggle of wanting to get out and have a big, successful life with meaningful relationships–but also wanting to just stay inside alone forever.
Band member Kiri Oliver shared the following:
“After I left a toxic situation for a healthy one, I found myself struggling to adjust and I compared myself to a scared rescue dog who can’t get comfortable even though it’s safe now. I decided to run with that idea and write a positive anthem about finding your home and trusting that things will get better.”
The band also put together an adventure-filled Muppets-inspired music video for “Strays” directed by Brendan McKnight. Check that out below, pre-order your copy of their upcoming album on vinyl via Asbestos Records, and keep checking back for more from Early Riser!
