Happy Little Clouds Releases New Single “The Emperor’s Song”

Photo: Jac Mestel

Happy Little Clouds has released a new single and accompanying music video for “The Emperor’s Song.” The infectious indie-synth track, rooted in empowerment, represents a new era for the melodic post-grunge trio, as vocalist, guitarist, and founder Jac Mestel (they/them) is now rounded out by drummer Jess Townsend (World/Inferno Friendship Society, she/her), and bassist JD Bergstrom (he/him). In “The Emperor’s Song” video, Mestel’s vintage art museum footage is mixed in with the band dressing up as a variety of emperors.

The band had the following to say about the new release:

“‘The Emperor’s Song’ is about a relationship being infiltrated and taking the anger and trauma and frustration and turning it into something empowering and uplifting to make things better for everyone. The Emperor in the tarot is this very strong leader who is also in touch with his own emotions so Jac put their feelings through the lens of a character who knows how to get through something painful and come out stronger.”
