Brooklyn’s Le Big Zero has recently released the first single off their new and upcoming EP, How To Use a Semicolon which will be released on February 21st via Mint 400 Records. This lead track is called “How Very” and is a perfect introduction to the band’s cinematic aesthetic.
The accompanying video stars comedian and actor Billie Bullock as a struggling artist with a particular problem: Visions of a toy piano plague them, drawing them towards it portentously. The piano finally confronts them during the song’s coda, revealing its teeth and consuming them. It’s wild, weird, and thought-provoking. For a track that’s built upon layers of constructed tension, the striking video—directed by Jeanette D. Moses and Justin Ferraro—meets the music perfectly.
After two albums and an EP, How To Use a Semicolon is a statement of purpose for Le Big Zero and a homecoming of sorts for singer Carolina Aguilar, returning to the microphone after stepping away to focus on motherhood. The new EP features only three tracks and 12 minutes, but they adeptly harness the power and possibilities of rock music to great effect, unafraid to explore different corners of the canvas with creativity and passion.
