Carlisle, UK’s NOVABLOOD has released a brand new single entitled “I Used To Live In A House.” The new song is the opening track from the band’s upcoming album, You’re New To This Aren’t You?, which will be released on March 27th via Mint 400 Records.
“I Used To Live In A House” itself grew out of imperfection. A guitar missing a string, slightly out of tune, refusing to settle. Instead of correcting it, the band built the song around that instability. A hypnotic, looping bassline holds everything together, while much of the track was captured in first takes, letting rhythm lead while everything else reacts.
Lyrically, the song exists in two places at once. One thread works as a rejection of past experiences in dance music and house culture. The other draws from a literal memory of a place once lived in — a renovated church, shared nights, excess, and reflection. Rendered not with nostalgia but with exposure, the song circles the idea of having “a roof over my head” without the comfort that phrase usually implies.
