It was a cold, rainy day in Chicago, and I was buzzing with excitement as I prepared for a sold-out show at Beat Kitchen. The venue may be small, but it’s filled with character and charm. As soon as I arrived, I made my way to the front of the stage, where the room was already packed with eager fans and buzzing with energy. The crowd was incredibly welcoming, setting the perfect vibe for the night ahead.
The opener, Adrian Lyles, is an American singer and actor based in Los Angeles. He started performing at a very young age, and this was his debut tour. When he walked on stage, he shared that with the crowd, and right from the start, I was blown away by his voice and stage presence. He had a natural connection with the audience, engaging with them as if he had been touring for years. Lyles was joined by two talented band members, and together, they put on an incredible opening set. I had a great time capturing the energy of his performance.
Although the night was chilly outside, the room heated up the moment the main act, almost monday, hit the stage. Their presence brought an instant wave of sunshine and positivity to the crowd. The band kicked off their first song, and the entire room erupted into dance. As I readied my camera, the lead singer began posing, exuding contagious energy and making sure to interact with every corner of the room. The audience sang along as the band played through tracks from their latest album, DIVE, along with their other catchy indie-pop hits. To wrap up the night, the band took a Polaroid with the crowd, and I couldn’t resist throwing my camera up to get in the shot.
The night was full of fantastic memories, and capturing the band’s set was an absolute blast. It was one of those shows that felt magical from start to finish.
