Pitchfork Day 1 – Tame Impala, Courtney Barnett, & More

Photo: Angela Romano

The forecast for Day 1 of Pitchfork was an 80% chance of rain. I’ve never stalked the Amazon delivery driver so hard in my life. As soon as my camera rain cover arrived, I rushed over to Union Park just in time to photograph Joshua Abrams & Natural Information Society in the pouring rain. The weather barely put a dent in the fans enjoying their set.

Next up were Open Mike Eagle, Saba, and Syd. AllĀ  were determined to get the crowed moving and boy did they succeed. This was my first time seeing Courtney Barnett live. She rocked so hard all while making it look easy. You can tell she loves playing music and I loved watching her do it.

In the photo pit waiting for Tame Impala, the security guards stressed multiple times to STAND CLEAR of the confetti canon. Instantly, I knew that I would be surrounded by thousands of tiny floating pieces of paper all while photographing one of my favorite bands. It was everything you would imagine and more. The rains started blowing directly onto the stage while Kevin Parker and his band played on with zero shits given. I will forever think of that moment every time I hear “Let It Happen.”
