This night was very important to me. I had seen The Brook and The Bluff one other time before this show and they never disappoint. The band had opened for Stephen Sanchez at a show I attended in Chicago, and I was immediately hooked. I had a feeling this show would be a blast.
Opening the show was Toledo, a indie rock band based in Brooklyn, NY. The duo is known for their seamless harmonies, and raw emotional lyrics. I had just started listening to their music, so I was especially excited to capture their performance. As they took the stage, the crowd quieted, and the pair greeted everyone with a gentle wave. The band continued to play light, acoustic based rock throughout their set. The audience listened, and took in the emotional depth of each lyric. Their set was intimate, raw, and beautifully executed.
Then came the main event: The Brook and The Bluff, hailing from Birmingham, AL. I’ve been listening to them for a few years now, and I was very eager to see them again. The band entered with great enthusiasm, they greeted everyone in the room, and then began performing. Each member of the band shared contagious energy. Fans along the barricade sang along passionately. Their stage presence was commanding, their connection with the audience was genuine, and the entire show was full of euphoric jam sessions.
Overall, both acts brought something special to the night, and I had an incredible time capturing it all.
