Vacations, Soft Blue Shimmer, & Alex Lahey in Phoenix, AZ

This past week, Australia’s greatest indie pop band came to the desert at the worst possible time to play for a full house at the Van Buren. There wasn’t a single body in that room that wasn’t singing and dancing along, myself included.

Alex Lahey pulled double duty by opening the show and covering on backup guitar/saxaphone for Vacations. Not to mention she did it all while fighting off a little cold. Proving once again that girls do in fact fuckin’ rule.

LA’s Soft Blue Shimmer played second. They’re a band I’ve heard a ton about but never actually checked out. As soon as their set started, there was a moment where I didn’t even touch my camera becauseĀ  I was so blown away by what I’d been missing out on. Definitely going to catch them again next time they’re in town.

Vacations was nothing short of what I expected. They were absolutely amazing and every little bit of dreamy pop I thought they’d be. I became familiar with them earlier in the year and I’ve been waiting for them to come back ever since I became hyperfixated on their entire discography. It was one of the more fun shows I’ve been to, and watching everyone dance & sing along to each and every song was a blast in and of itself.

If you’re a fan of dancy, groovy indie pop, then do yourself a favor and check out Vacations. They’re about to wrap up this tour, but make sure to catch them on the next one.

Now, without further ado, check out the photos I got from the show:
