Dwight Yoakam has been playing is brand of country music for almost 40 years. Getting his start in Los Angeles, CA in the mid-1980s, Yoakam mixed elements of neotraditional country, honky-tonk, the Bakersfield sound, bluegrass, country rock, rockabilly, rock ‘n’ roll, and even a bit of cowpunk, creating a sound that is all his own. Since then he has released somewhere between 17 and 20 albums, depending on how one counts cover albums and acoustic records of re-recorded previously released material. Along the way, he also found time for some acting and directing in such films as Sling Blade, Panic Room, Wedding Crashers, and South of Heaven, West of Hell.
