Kendra Sheetz Blue Island, IL. You may have heard me talk about it before. When I haven’t been there in awhile, it seems to be the only thing I talk about. Just thirty minutes south of Chicago’s iconic downtown skyline lies a town just outside of city limits. It’s a place where gambling is allowed (stupid Chicago laws), where drinks are cheap, and where the punk music scene and community is thriving.
Every September, NBE – one of the local booking and promotion companies in the area – throws an all day party. But, this isn’t just any ol’ party. It’s a Punk Rock Pig Roast. For only $18, you get to spend the day in the backyard of PubTime watching a slew of bands and chomping your way through a HUGE all you can eat buffet that, of course, features two pigs!
Earlier this week, NBE announced this year’s amazing lineup. Here’s who is (dis)gracing the stage next month: Bad Sons, ShoeBomb, Munch, Criminal Kids, Braver Days, The Ridgelands, Lost in Society (NJ), Anger, Nightcap, Brick Assassin, & Brendan Kelly (of the Lawrence Arms, fucking duh). That’s right! All those bands and artists, plus two pigs, plus a ton of other amazing food, plus drink specials, plus it’s my birthday! Come party with me in Blue Island next month and watch me try to remember how to drunkenly sing along to songs I was pretty sure I knew really well.
