Boston alternative rock duo Paper Tigers has announced the release of their sophomore album, East Coaster, arriving August 12th. The announcement comes alongside release of the album’s lead single, “Go Out,” which features guest vocals from Olivia Beatrice Martinez of indie-pop outfit Don’t Tell Iris.
Paper Tigers quickly became a fixture in Boston’s DIY music scene following the pandemic, earning multiple nominations from the Boston Music Awards and New England Music Awards while sharing stages at festivals including Boston Calling and In Between Days. Their 2023 debut album, Charmer, established the band’s blend of alternative and indie rock before the group stepped away from the spotlight for a period of time.
Now operating as the duo of Boston’s Michael Medlock and Iceland’s Bjarki Guðmundsson, Paper Tigers has returned with a renewed focus on East Coaster. The album explores themes of love and loss, social isolation, anti-social behavior, and anti-corporate sentiment through noisy, aggressive, and emotionally charged songwriting.
The band shared the following about the new single:
“‘Go Out’ is essentially from the perspective of an anti-social individual in a relationship with a social butterfly. Basically, the older we get the more we enjoy staying home and we’re tired of apologizing for it.”
