Steve Rovery and Bryan Flowers, members of D.C. band American Television, have spent the better half of a decade putting on punk rock events in D.C. Their largest event, Breakin’ Even Fest, will celebrate its 5th and final year at Pie Shop this year on August 9th through 11th.
The 2024 lineup includes MakeWar, The Dopamines, The Iron Roses, Keep Flying, and American Television in addition to a slew of new and up-and-coming DC area artists like Endlings, Cherub Tree, Over Our Eyes, Truth or Dare, and more.
Pie Shop in Washington D.C. is a 100 cap venue which makes this event an intimate setting for a high energy festival. This year’s passes are $20 for a single-night and $60 for a three-night pass. The event has consistently sold out since 2017. If it’s anything like previous years, we can expect to see a massive nightly merch raffle, event swag, or even a comedy line-up like they introduced in 2022.
The moniker “Breakin’ Even” is not hyperbole. Rovery and Flowers make sure 100% of the money generated from the event and sponsors is cycled back to the artists on the festival – it has been a labor of love. Breakin’ Even is about celebrating the bands, the community, and everything that goes into making music happen, they want to show that music does not stop at the stage – it’s everywhere.
