Yesterday, Riot Fest announced that they would be announcing the lineup this morning along with hosting a pre-sale of ticket at 7PM that evening. And of course, in true Riot Fest fashion, the social media pages lit up as fans and foes started to gossip and guess.
The main question on everyone’s minds – besides who is going to be headlining and will I be able to catch all of my favorite bands (spoiler alert: no, you won’t) – is where the festival will be held. Riot Fest, along with many other outdoor festivals, have faced increased criticism from the neighborhoods in which the events are held citywide. Riot Fest has been held in Douglass Park since 2015, when it moved from Humboldt Park after facing pushback in that neighborhood.
Over the last few years, Douglass Park neighbors have been speaking up because between the three festivals held in their park – Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash, Heatwave Festival, and Riot Fest – their access to their public community outdoor space is greatly limited. While the first two festivals listed decided to move to other venues across the city, Riot Fest is planning to remain in Douglass Park for another year, according to their representation. It should be noted that Riot Fest gives out hundreds of free tickets to the community, hosts park clean up dates, hosts job fairs, and more. There are valid concerns on either side of this issue and hopefully a compromise can be reached.
Riot Fest 2023 is set to be held on Friday, September 15th through Sunday the 17th. Tickets can be purchased HERE. 3 Day tickets. Single day tickets. VIP fancy tickets. They’ve got them all up for sale.
The lineup this year is impressive… but isn’t it always. Holy shit. Some of the other heavy hitters include Foo Fighters, The Mars Volta, The Gaslight Anthem, AFI, Turnstile, Tegan and Sara, Ani DiFranco and like 1000 more.
Check out the full lineup below and keep checking back for more from Riot Fest!
