Yesterday, Riot Fest announced that they would NOT be continuing their run at Douglass Park. Over the last few years, Riot Fest – along with many other outdoor festivals – has faced increased criticism from the neighborhoods in which the events are held citywide. Riot Fest has been held in Douglass Park since 2015, when it moved from Humboldt Park after facing pushback in that neighborhood.
In a video message Riot Fest founder Riot Mike stated that this move was due to the Park District and that Alderwoman Monique Scott is, was, and always has been supportive of the festival. Alderwoman Scott issues a press release this morning which seems to state that the Park District dragged their feet in reviewing the documents and were planning to grant the festival at a meeting held later today. But too little, too late seems to be the there here, as Riot Fest announced an hour ago that they will be moving the festival outside of the Chicago city limits, to the SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview. They teased out a new location that would include parking, a literal dream… unless it turns out to be $150 a day. This new location is dubbed RiotLand.
Riot Fest 2024 will be held on Friday, September 20th through Sunday the 22nd. Tickets can be purchased HERE. 3 Day tickets. Single day tickets. VIP fancy tickets. They’ve got them all up for sale.
The lineup this year is impressive… but isn’t it always. Holy shit. Some of the other heavy hitters include Fall Out Boy, Beck, Beach Bunny, a bunch of old dude punk bands with terribly outdated views of the world that I don’t give a shit about, Bright Eyes, Public Enemy, and Pavement plus like 1000 more.
Check out the full lineup below and keep checking back for more from Riot Fest!
