Chicago songwriter Jack Riedy and his backing band the Dealbreakers recently have released a new single entitled “My Friends Were Right.” Not only did the single drop, but days later, exclusive remixes were released everywhere as well!
The song was captured on tape by Brok Mende at Chicago’s Friends Of Friends Recording and is a pop punk rocker about finding love at a house party. It also features a singalong chorus and is supercharged by a full horn section. The song accurately conveys the sugar rush of a new romance; Jack first wrote the chorus as a 15-year-old high school student with a crush.
He shared:
“My friends had grand plans to introduce me to a girl from another school one weekend. This song was my fantasy of meeting someone who lived up to their hype, and of me doing the same for the her and her friends. I was in the middle of class when the main riff came to me. I had to draw music staff on scratch paper and note it down during an exam so I wouldn’t forget it.”
