Tour is expensive, exhausting, and so very rewarding. You meet people nationally, and sometimes internationally, who watch you play your heart out, who buy your merch, and let you sleep on their floor. But every once in while something negative happens. Vans break down, shows or show spaces get cancelled, and the very items you’re using to share your life blood get stolen.
While Southern California’s Moonraker was recently in Tijuana, their gear, their merch, their personal items, and their touring vehicle were stolen. Thousands and thousands of dollars were gone in an instant. The band decided against a GoFundMe account. But they did want to find a way for fans and friends to donate but also offer something in return.
Today, they released their single “Buzzballz in the Parking Lot” (personally one of my favorite Moonraker songs for so many reasons). The song was recorded at The Sandwich Shoppe in Durham, North Carolina by Scotty Sandwich (Almost People, Death to False Hope Records) while we were on tour and mixed by Chris Collier.
The song is now featured on the band’s Bandcamp page as a pay-what-you-want download as a way to donate to help replace their items. They also have their latest release, Lanterns, on the Tiny Dragon Bandcamp page up for sale digitally or on vinyl. You can contribute any amount you choose.
The band had the following to say about the song:
“While we were on tour this past winter, our friend Scotty said we could stop by his new studio to record a song. The problem was that we didn’t have any new songs kicking around. So we quickly wrote what we’re hoping will become the new company jingle for Buzzballz (Buzzballz, if you’re interested, you know how to contact us). We wrote it as an anthem for us and our friends to listen to while, you guessed it, slamming Buzzballz in the parking lot. Hope you enjoy it. Have a ball!”
Listen to “Buzzballz in the Parking Lot” now and please help out our buds in Moonraker get back at what they do best, touring and spreading the glorious word of canned alcoholic drinks all across the land!
