Public Mess Releases Blazing New Single “Garbage Island”

Canadian acoustic punk trio Public Mess has released their newest digital single, “Garbage Island.” The song was originally penned by singer Cactus Vella during his solo busking days in 1999. Back then, Vella was a lone troubadour selling his demo tape – which featured “Garbage Island” – straight from his guitar case while busking on Toronto’s Queen Street West. The track was later immortalized by the punk band Sinkin’ Ships on their second LP in 2005. Now, it rises from the ashes in its third, most powerful incarnation with Public Mess.

Joining Vella and bassist Rob Fiasco on this sonic journey are drummer Jeff Robertson (of Sinkin’ Ships and School Damage fame) and the enigmatic Boxcar Sh’onn (Plan 37 and Deforesters), who contributes gritty backing vocals.

Vella stated the following about the newly revamped single:

“Bringing ‘Garbage Island’ back to life with Public Mess feels like coming full circle. The song has evolved with every version, and this latest take is the rawest, most authentic expression of its punk roots.”
