Toronto-based acoustic-punk band Public Mess has released their own rendition of the Ramones’ classic “Pet Sematary,” just in time for Spooky Season. Inspired by a last-minute text from band member Rob, the cover came together in true punk-rock spirit—fast, raw, and full of heart.
“What if we cover Pet Sematary and release it on Halloween?” was the spark that kicked off the idea. But with no rehearsals and time running short, the band hit the ground running. Andrew laid down drums remotely, followed by Cactus, Sh’onn, and Rob recording their parts together to pull off the final version.
The result is an acoustic punk take on the beloved track—trading the original’s hard-edged energy for a moodier, atmospheric vibe that stays true to the Ramones while carving out its own haunting sound. “This one’s for the Ramones—and for anyone who knows that sometimes the best ideas come at the last minute,” the band says.
