Last week, Lansing, MI’s Rodeo Boys released their newest single entitled “Sam’s Song.” On the surface, it’s a bruising revenge anthem; but under the distorted surface lies a devastating true story. Vocalist/guitarist Tiff Hannay (they/them) wrote it from the perspective of their best friend—who was groomed by their 8th grade English teacher for six years. Tiff shares that some of the lyrics are direct quotes from her journals, used with her permission. The song documents not only her eventual decision to come forward, but the lifelong damage inflicted by someone who should have been trustworthy.
“Sam’s Song” will be featured on the band’s upcoming album, Junior, which was produced by Tom May (The Menzingers) and mixed by Marc Jacob Hudson (Against Me!, Saves The Day, Sunny Day Real Estate). Junior will be released later this month, on April 25th via Don Giovanni Records.
