A vicious lament for the young men lost at war, Boston Hardcore band Defeater surges with turbulent energy in “Mothers’ Sons,” performed live for A Fistful of Vinyl at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. It’s new territory for the typically Folk/Punk platform, but Defeater’s melodic Post-Hardcore sound lands with a resounding weight. Driven by Derek Archambault’s roaring vocals, and supported by infectious riffs, chugging down-tuned rhythms, and explosive percussion by the rest of the band.
Defeater’s session with AFoV includes three songs from their arsenal, as well as a 45-minute, full-band interview that premieres next Friday.

A Fistful of Vinyl is a DIY crew of volunteers run by KXLU veteran Alec Hodgman. They create live music sessions and interviews for YouTube in Los Angles with artists in and around the punk and folk music scenes. Their coverage helps to raise notoriety of small artists who make phenomenal music but don’t have a platform to share it, and celebrate the larger artists who share that mission of supporting those up-and-coming prodigies. A Fistful of Vinyl airs on KXLU 88.9 FM/Online Thursday nights at 9pm PT.
