Chicago’s Kali Masi has been churning out some killer Punk Rock jams for nearly a decade now. The four-piece outfit have recently released their new album [laughs] via Take This To Heart Records, their first full-length album in four years. Drawing easy comparisons to other Midwest greats like Hey Mercedes, Alkaline Trio, or Lawrence Arms, Kali Masi’s music is layered with rich, melodic instrumentation, vocal hooks for days, and a pop-sensibility that still stays true to their Punk roots.
Sam and John stopped by the show to talk about the history of the band and the origins of the band name, what they’ve been doing during the pandemic, and to discuss some of their favorite bands coming out of the Chicago area. We spend some time discussing what touring post-pandemic may look like, and they give me their 5 “trapped on a desert island” albums.
Though they were unable to have a proper album release show, the band was able to organize an online release party, which featured performances from members of Sincere Engineer, Such Gold, Elway, and of course, Kali Masi.
[laughs] is available to order now via Take This To Heart Records or their own Bandcamp store
