It’s almost that time of year again, where thousands upon thousands of black t-shirt and jorts wearing music fans will descend upon Gainesville, FL in hopes of seeing their favorite bands and drinking just enough to not remember seeing anything all. While there are hundreds of well-known names on the Fest schedule this year, we wanted to showcase a handful of the bands who are heading down to Florida and playing for the very first time. So keep reading, check out all the bands in this series, and get to know some really great under the radar talent!
Next on the roster is Chicagoland’s own Bumsy & The Moochers. The band released a full-length album last month on all streaming platforms as well as cassette (with the help of Ska Punk International) and CD (via Sell the Heart). Make sure to check them out on Sunday, October 30th at The Backyard at Boca/Palomino at noon.

Interview
How long has Bumsy & The Moochers been a band?
10 years.
Have you attended Fest before?
We have never attended or played FEST before.
What are you stoked for during Fest weekend?
Of course I’m most stoked to play FEST. I’ve always wanted to so I’m glad it’s finally happening. I’m excited to see a lot of bands I’ve always wanted to see in one place. I can’t wait to see Bad Cop / Bad Cop, Suicide Machines, No Trigger, and Joystick for the first time, just to name a few. I’m also really excited to meet new people and make new connections with bands from all over the country.
What’s your very best story from a past tour?
It’s not really a crazy show story, just an all around good show story. Last October we played at Reggies with Mustard Plug, Catbite, and J Navarro and the Traitors. I asked Jay if he could sing “Sound System” with me when Bumsy played it and he was super down. Not only was it cool that Jay came onstage and sang with us, but Dave from Mustard Plug did too! It was so cool to have Ska legends sing a legendary Ska song with us. haha. The crowd was so full of energy that night and we played a perfect set.
Let’s say you’re booking the lineup of a festival that represents you as a band. What would the top 5 headliners be?
I love this question! I’d have to say:
Dance Hall Crashers
Sum 41
The Hippos
What does the band have coming up? What can we all look forward to from ya’ll?
After FEST, we’re getting ready for our vinyl release show at Reggie’s in Chicago November 26th. It’s our first release on vinyl so we are super excited. Jump Up Records, Sell The Heart Records and Ska Punk International are all teaming up to release it. That show line up will include us, Space Monkey Mafia, Beat The Smart Kids, and DJ Chuck Wren. We are also starting to write a new EP.
