It’s almost that time of year again, where thousands upon thousands of black t-shirt and jorts wearing music fans will descend upon Gainesville, FL in hopes of seeing their favorite bands and drinking just enough to not remember seeing anything all. While there are hundreds of well-known names on the Fest schedule this year, we wanted to showcase a handful of the bands who are heading down to Florida and playing for the very first time. So keep reading, check out all the bands in this series, and get to know some really great under the radar talent!
We’re kicking off this year with Worst Advice from Nuremburg, Germany! The four piece punk band delves into darker lyrics while embracing the feeling of alienation all wrapped up in songs laced with raspy harmonies. Worst Advice played Booze Cruise Festival in Hamburg earlier this year and released their latest album, an EP entitled Waves, in early 2022. You can stream that below:
Worst Advice will be playing on Sunday, October 29th at Loosey’s at 10:40PM. Don’t miss ’em!
Interview
How long has the band been playing music?
We started the band in 2018. We were off to a good start, released our first 7″, played some cool shows and then the pandemic hit. We had a line up change during the pandemic and are now enjoying doing our thing more than ever before.
Have you personally attended Fest before?
Fun story: Matias and I met at Fest for the first time, even if we both live in the same not so big German city. That was in 2017. We became really good friends and also started the band together. So I can say by heart: Fest is the best.
What are you most stoked for during Fest weekend?
Meeting old and new friends from all over the place while watching our favorite bands play. And good food and beers, of course.
What’s your very best tour story?
We played a show in Innsbruck, Austria and during our set I saw the guy, who we were supposed to stay with, leaving. Some really nice but also really weird guy offered us to crash at his place. We had some drinks after the show and right before going to sleep he enthusiastically showed us his collection of knives. In my drunk paranoia, I slept with all of my clothes (winter jacket, shoes etc.) on, just in case I had to leave the building quickly. After like 2 hours of sleep we took of for a 10 hour drive to Hungary.
Let’s say you’re booking the lineup of a festival that represents you as an artist/band. What would the top 5 headliners be?
Something like that.
What does the band have coming up?
We’re really excited to play Fest on Sunday, 10:40 PM at Loosey’s and that Smartpunk Pre-Fest show in Orlando on Wednesday the 25th at Will’s Pub. Come by say hi! We have another hometown show after we get back to Germany. Oh, and we are in the process of recording our first full-length, which should be out next year!
What can we all look forward to from you in the near future?
Releasing a full-length, playing shows, having fun with our best friends, drinking all the beers, that kind of stuff. Even while getting kind of older, we are having the time of our lives and are very happy to still be around!
