Dave Hause has announced the release of a brand new, full-length, full-band album. The record, entitled …And The Mermaid, will be Dave’s seventh studio album and will be released on September 26th via Blood Harmony Records. …And The Mermaid was recorded at Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC by Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung).
While Dave has been backed by various musicians over his solo career, the current iteration has stayed constant for some time. This includes his brother Tim Hause on guitar and vocals, bassist Luke Preston, keyboardist Mark Masefield, and drummer Kevin Conroy. And while they have played together, they they’d never recorded together.
Dave described the new effort as having an epiphany while rewatching the movie Goodfellas:
“There’s that scene in the beginning where Henry Hill says, ‘As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.’ This record is my realization that, as far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be in a rock and roll band. This record is that rock and roll band distilled into 10 songs.”
Leading the collection of songs is the first single, “Enough Hope,” a track that takes the point of view of those in power laughing at the working class. It hits home with that perfectly satirical social commentary that Dave has perfected over the years.
