We are so very stoked to be premiering a brand new single and video from Tijuana, B.C. Mexico’s DFMK. The new single, “Lo Que Necesito,” will be featured on the band’s upcoming album, Playa Nuclear, their sophomore LP which will be released by Alternative Tentacles on October 17th.

Playa Nuclear was recorded in 2023 in Tijuana by DFMK’s long-time friend and collaborator Fernando Morales, who worked on many of the EP releases from the band. It was mastered by the legendary Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO.

DFMK bassist Fernando Cruz shared the following about the new single:

“I wrote this song with the ideals of punk in the early ’90s being about unity and friendship. Being involved in punk since I was a teenager and being part of a group of punks who can be deemed “Lifers”; I wanted to write a song about the bond and unity we have with friends and family that began through our punk community. Now In my mid to late 40’s, the message remains the same – the future is unwritten but no matter what happens, we will always have each other.

The song is a short song, and to the point and with Nekro Boom Boom Kid singing the intro, it really ties in the idea of community that punk brings to us through past experiences, friendships, and bands. I remember seeing Nekro in Fun People at a bar at 17 years old (don’t ask, haha) and then playing with Fun People and Boom Boom Kid, his current band. I always respected and to this day, share his DIY ethics and his heart for the punk community.  I feel honored to have him singing this song with our band!”

Lead singer Mr. Cap added:

“When Fernando first showed me the song and its lyrics, I immediately connected with it. I loved that it was a short and sweet 30-second melodic punk anthem. In the beginning, the song didn’t have a guitar intro, so I suggested, ‘What if BBK sings an intro to the song?’ Everyone loved the idea, so we reached out to him to see if he’d be interested in contributing. He was really into the collaboration—we’ve shared the stage with his band several times when he’s toured in Mexico and the U.S.—and what came out of it was something truly special. We’re very grateful for Boom Boom Kid’s participation on ‘Lo Que Necesito.’ On top of that, he also created an amazing cover art for the album.”
