Like so many bands, the COVID-19 pandemic forced Los Angeles’ Total Massacre to turn their normal song writing process on its head. The band had to learn how to write songs without getting into a room together like they were used to. With the help of Zoom, Slack, email, and more, they were able to record six new tracks that sound possibly even more urgent than anything they’ve released before. And because the prospect of returning to “business as usual” as musicians seems so far away, Total Massacre decided to try something unique with this release, dropping one song a month for the first half of 2021.
May’s release, “Punching Up,” is a song infused with straight forward political Hardcore. Lyrically, it is an answer to the often asked question of “why?” Why are good people beaten down in the streets for saying Black Lives Matter while racists and radical fundamentalists are given free reign? Why is a broken bank window considered violence and poverty isn’t?
Stream all one minute and forty seconds of “Punching Up” below and keep coming back for more from Total Massacre!
