Dinosaur Jr., Snail Mail, & Easy Action in Chicago, IL

"I feel the pain of everyone Then I feel nothing" - Dinosaur Jr.

The night began with great anticipation as I loaded my camera gear into my car. I had the opportunity to cover an amazing co-headlining tour – one that’s already halfway through its second leg. With having listened to Dinosaur Jr. and Snail Mail for awhile now, I was very excited to capture both of their performances. With that being said, I headed to the front of the stage and waited for the show to begin.

First up was Easy Action, a four-piece rock band from Detroit, Michigan. The band is known for their raw, gritty sound that blends Detroit’s rock with an infectious punk edge. As they hit the stage, the room filled with amazing energy. The lead vocalist began singing with a piercing stare emerging from his face. There was cheering from every corner of the room. Their entire set was intense and unique-an amazing start to the night.

The second act, Snail Mail, is an indie-rock solo project of Lindsey Jordan, from Baltimore, Maryland. Snail Mail has released two full-length studio albums, Lush and Valentine. They played some of their greatest hits from both albums. The Baltimore native has kind, low vocals that are also comforting and endearing. The simple indie-rock melodies were extremely captivating and dreamy. The enthusiastic crowd sang along and cheered as she played through her captivating set. I thoroughly enjoyed capturing her performance.

The final act of the night is Dinosaur Jr., a rock band from Amherst, Massachusetts. Their mission is rooted in loud, distorted and powerful performances. I had never seen them live before, so I was especially curious about what they’d bring to the stage. The band entered the room and immediately dove into their jam packed set. The fans along the barricade sang along passionately to every song. The set was full of many Dinosaur Jr. classics as well as some deep cuts. The band’s stage presence was electric, and their connection with the audience was very special.

Overall, every band put on an amazing performance. I had a blast capturing every moment as well.
