In 2023, I decided to cut back on shooting gigs because my eyes needed a small break. I couldn’t stay away long, though. 2023 was a year I got to see some of my favorite bands headline tours and play anniversary shows. It’s also a year that my camera did more work in animal welfare. Here are some of my favorite photos of the year. Looking forward to more in 2024!
Flogging Molly brought St. Patrick’s Day festivities to The Palladium in Los Angeles with a SOLD OUT show.
Los Angeles based pop punk band Good Terms played Chain Reaction early in the year and is a band that have been making a name for themselves. RIYL: New Found Glory and A Day To Remember.
Made up of members of San Jose’s Get Married and Los Angeles’ Tiny Stills, Sweet Gloom was busy playing shows around the country as they released their debut album, Reverie via Asian Man Records. One of the many places they played was Programme Skate & Sound in Fullerton, California.
Ska punk band, The Interrupters need no introduction if you know the music and have seen them live. Here they are headlining a SOLD OUT show at House of Blues Anaheim.
Post-hardcore legends, Thrice just get better as time goes by. The 20-year anniversary tour for The Artist In The Ambulance was a hell of an experience to witness and having a chance to document it at House of Blues Anaheim was a dream come true.
Rosemead’s finest, Audio Karate performed at The Paramount in East L.A. and everyone came through in the pit whether they sang or moshed in the intimate space. Bonus: The sound and lighting was done by women and the entire lineup (3LH, Profesor Galactico, and Grave Secrets) was made up of POC.
One non-musical event I photographed was Pasadena Humane’s Wiggle Waggle Walk & Run. This is an annual event that takes place at Brookside Park at the Rose Bowl that I’ve photographed in the past and it’s always a wonderful time seeing all the dogs in one place. All the money raised goes towards foster care, animal ICU, wildlife, and more.
Every year, Pasadena Humane holds a few adoption events at the shelter. This is Truffles and after spending a number of months at the shelter and in foster, she went to her forever home in June!
Over the summer, I helped United Hope For Animals, a non-profit that works with Baldwin Park Animal Center in Baldwin Park, California. I took portraits of adoptable cats to help them get seen as these photos are shared on social media. Luisa was one of many cats looking for a home!
This past April 1st was no laughing matter at West Los Angeles Shelter as activists, rescues, and pet lovers showed up in support of all the animals while asking for change and demanding action. Unfortunately, shelters across the country are sharing similar experiences as pets are being surrendered to overcrowded shelters. Shortage of funding, staff, and volunteers has also impacted these animals. My hope for 2024 is that we help all these animals get seen and to clear the shelters by getting all these pets into lovable homes. If you want to help, you can adopt, foster, donate some bucks to shelters and rescues, or volunteer!
