First Time Fest Band Exclusive: Cardboard Box Colony

It’s almost that time of year again, where thousands upon thousands of black t-shirt and jorts wearing music fans will descend upon Gainesville, FL in hopes of seeing their favorite bands and drinking just enough to not remember seeing anything all. While there are hundreds of well-known names on the Fest schedule this year, we wanted to showcase a handful of the bands who are heading down to Florida and playing for the very first time. So keep reading, check out all the bands in this series, and get to know some really great under the radar talent!

Next on the roster is Asheville, NC’s Cardboard Box Colony. The band released their self-titled EP in 2020 which was mastered by Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO. Make sure to check them out on Saturday, October 29th at The Backyard at Boca/Palomino at 1PM.

Stream the band’s ST EP below and make sure to catch them during Fest weekend!

Kendra Sheetz

How long has Cardboard Box Colony been a band?

A little over 3 years now.

Kendra Sheetz

Have you attended Fest before?

I’ve (band member Austin Burgess) attended 3 times and watched a bunch of “Fest at Home” livestreams during the pandemic.

Kendra Sheetz

What are you stoked for during Fest weekend?

I’m stoked to spend the weekend with friends (& make new ones) away from the stress of the real world. Can’t wait to get food from Boca Fiesta, Reggae Shack, & Nah Dogs. Also really looking forward to catching music from A Vulture Wake, Mobina Galore, MakeWar and wayyyy too many other great bands to list.

Kendra Sheetz

What’s your best Fest story?

Lots of fun (& sometimes blurry) Fest memories but my absolute favorite is meeting my partner at Fest 14 while hanging out with mutual friends. We reconnected a couple years later, hung out a few times, started dating, and have been together since. She’ll be helping us sell merch this year!

Kendra Sheetz

Let’s say you’re booking the lineup of a festival that represents you as a band. What would the top 5 headliners be?

I asked the rest of the band for input on this one and we came up with:

Lagwagon

Propagandhi

Thrice

Four Year Strong

Covet

Kendra Sheetz

What does the band have coming up? What can we all look forward to from ya’ll?

We have an upcoming split EP with our drummer-sharing buddies in The Deathbots coming soon & are shooting to release a full-length album in 2023. We’ll also have some rad new merch at Fest like our official party pack (fanny pack loaded with a koozie, lighter, bottle opener, stickers/pins, and some Liquid IV & Blowfish to help keep you going through the weekend) come grab one at Palomino on Saturday!
