I’m not a fan of country music. I mean, okay, I enjoy some Johnny Cash and I’ve sung some drunken lines of Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats,” but for the most part it’s not a genre I enjoy. Why on earth am I writing this on a punk site? GOOD QUESTION. Justine and the Unclean came through the interweb to Bad Copy with some mighty high praise. Their Bandcamp page says they sound like the Ramones, X, and Buzzcocks. Get the fuck out of here. More like the Dixie Chicks, a drunk Shania Twain, and Faith Hill.
The Boston four-piece spent a year recording this album. The nine song full length was narrowed down from over fifty songs. If these were the winners, I’d hate to hear the losers. Justine’s voice is super nasally and has a full-on country twang. If that’s what they’re going for, it’d probably be great But I’m assuming it’s not since they describe themselves as a punk band. Does the word “punk” have an entirely different meaning in Boston? Honestly, I don’t even have much else to say because I can’t get over the fact that they aren’t trying to sell this as a country album.
I give this record 0 out of 4 Dixie Chicks.
