If you follow Direct Hit!‘s Nick Woods on social media, you know two things about him. First, every time he attempts to announce a show or event, that pesky Banksy always seems to be getting in the way. Second, he has been working on rehabbing the building that was formerly known as The Metal Grill in Cudahy, just South of downtown Milwaukee.
The Metal Grill, where Woods hosted a slew of well known punks bands along with the summer festival Dummerfest, closed abruptly during the summer of 2017. The building eventually went into foreclosure. This is when a group came together to purchase the property. That group included Nick, his wife Kate, Bad Copy’s own Hot Sauce Kyle (of Soothsayer Hot Sauce), Andy Slania (The Eradicator, Stonewalled), Chicago artist Eric Baskauskas, as well as additional partners living in Milwaukee, Chicago, Minneapolis and the state of Michigan.
Now, after months and months (and months) of hard work, X-Ray Arcade has announced an official opening date on Saturday, February 9th. But the space is much more than a venue. As the name states, X-Ray Arcade will be offering up a variety of games such as like Galaga, NBA Jame, The Simpsons, X-Men Vs. Streetfighter, The House Of The Dead, Donkey Kong, and many more. The venue itself offers up a 20-foot stage and is all ages, something that is seemingly and unfortunately going out of style these days.
The arcade will initially have limited hours, operating from Thursday to Sunday. But in an article written by Tyler Mass posted on Milwaukee Record, Nick stated that he aims for the location to open six days a week with the goal of offering live shows on a daily basis. He also added that the third installment of Dummerfest will be returning to the property on June 22nd, so mark your calendars and keep checking back for more on X-Ray Arcade, Direct Hit!, and how much I’m going to own everyone at that The House of The Dead game!
