Eddie Japan has recently released their New Wave Pop Opera, Pop Fiction. Read that again, New Wave Pop Opera. The Boston-based cinematic-pop septet released the album digitally and on CD via Rum Bar Records.
Pop Fiction takes the musical force that is Eddie Japan, a sterling sonic cocktail stirred with Glam, New Wave, and Pop-Rock, and pulls the listener inward through the storyline of the metafictional Edward Japan and themes of boredom, loneliness, love, betrayal, fantasy, and regret.
Bandmember David Santos had the following to say about the new release:
“This record is really about the lost character who has sort of checked out of the system, so to speak, and is attempting to create what he imagines as an idyllic life of pleasure in the margins of suburbia, but always with the pull of what he left behind.”
