Boston, Mass-based band Stop Calling Me Frank has released a new fiery garage rock banger, “MB Anthem (The Market Basket Song).” The track is a rabble-rousing ode to the beloved New England grocery chain with a cult following.
“MB Anthem” is a classic Stop Calling Me Frank cocktail of jittery hooks and bratty punk-rock urgency. And it arrives, unintentionally, at a controversial moment in Market Basket’s history, just after the ousting of beloved longtime CEO Arthur T. Demoulas. Although the song itself has nothing to do with that drama, but the band stands with Artie T and are very outspoken about it.
Saxophonist Terry O’Malley shared the following about the new track:
“I saw a line of cars stopped on a highway off-ramp that leads to a plaza with a Market Basket. I said ‘Everybody’s going to the Market Basket!” sort of as a joke, but I liked the way those words scanned.”
