I’m going to be 100% honest here and it’s probably something I shouldn’t say running a music website and all, but godDAMN is it hard to care about music right now when everything seems to be spinning so wildly out of control. I feel like such a fucking sham posting about anything besides how Black Lives Matter. And yet, on the other hand, I feel terrible for all the bands who had grandiose plans this year ripped to shreds by COVID-19. No shows (at least you won’t be seeing me in a basement or venue any time soon. Fuck that.), no tours, just live stream after live stream to the point where my head spins and I find myself journeying to the end of all my video streaming services instead.
That being said, one of those bands who had high hopes for the year was Chicago’s famous (infamous?) The Lawrence Arms. The band spent January and February (remember those pre-pandemic months where the world was going just mildly insane?) of this year at Sonic Ranch on the Texas/Mexico border recording their newest album, Skeleton Coast. The full-length is slated to be released on July 17th via Epitaph Records. While we probably won’t be getting a tour or a stacked Chicago record release party any time soon, their band is moving forward with promotion of their art. TLA previously released a music video for the album’s first single “PTA” and today, they’ve released a second video for the song “Last, Last Words.”
Watch the video now and keep checking back for more from The Lawrence Arms and please don’t forget that Black Lives Matter and we’re still in a pandemic.
