It’s become a tradition that I get to experience the party that celtic punk band, Flogging Molly throws every St. Patrick’s Day. The show at The Hollywood Palladium marked their third to the last show of their headlining tour they just wrapped up with direct support from Punk Rock outfit Anti-Flag and Folk Punkers Skinny Lister.
Without any hesitation, Skinny Lister opened up the show with one of their most popular songs, “Wanted.” And whether or not people were already familiar with the quintet, the crowd did not hesitate to get into the vibe that was taking place. The momentum the show was already in continued on as Anti-Flag followed Skinny Lister’s set.
I have to be honest and say that I cannot recall the last time I saw the Pittsburgh punks, but man, was it a great set! It was nothing, but 45 minutes of bangers that included fan favorites such as “The Press Corpse,” “This Is The End (For You My Friend),” “1 Trillion Dollar$,” and “Die For The Government.” The cherry on the top was the medley of covers they performed, which included The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go,” Rancid’s “Fall Back Down,” Green Day’s “She,” The Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop,” and more. As they wrapped up their set, fans got antsy, me included, as we anticipated the performance from Flogging Molly.
Maybe I have not been paying attention to past Flogging Molly performances, but I don’t remember them playing 19 songs at those gigs! Seeing the band is always a damn good time, but it’s especially fun on St. Patrick’s Day with the fans showing up ready to sing and dance! This past Friday was no different as everyone’s energy went off when Flogging Molly kicked off their set with “The Likes Of You Again,” “Swagger,” and “The Kilburn High Road.” When fan favorite “Drunken Lullabies” kicked in, The Hollywood Palladium grew louder and then it REALLY felt like a party as the band played banger after banger. Some other fan favorites Flogging Molly played included “Devil’s Dance Floor,” “The Seven Deadly Sins,” “These Times Have Got Me Drinking/Tripping Up the Stairs,” and “If I Ever Leave This World Alive.” Before the night ended, we got treated to a two-song encore as the band played “Black Friday Rule” and “Salty Dog.”
Although Flogging Molly have wrapped up their headlining tour, they are getting ready for their tour in Europe and Salty Dog Cruise Lineup! For tour dates and tickets, you can go to floggingmolly.com.
