Back in September, I was rather unceremoniously let go from a job I didn’t particularly like, but still managed to feel pretty shitty about. Pile on top of that a perfect storm of impending cold and reckless self-doubt and it all amounts to a huge damper in my productivity. I was still going to shows, but kept feeling less good about it as time went on. Lately, I’ve been feeling much better. Good enough to at least go back and get these fucking months old reviews up.
I went to go see Justin Courtney Pierre kick off his first solo tour at Lincoln Hall back in November. The only note I have from this show simply says “So adorably awkward,” but I think that pretty well sums up the night. Justin spent a good amount of the night voicing his anxieties about this new venture. The crowd was quick to dismiss these through cheers and applause and assured him they were having a great time. Hearing his debut solo album In the Drink with a full band really gave it an extra oomph and I hope future releases from Justin feature this lineup. It was nice of him to even play a few Motion City Soundtrack songs that everyone could sing along to. I’m excited for him to find his feet and to hopefully come back soon.
