Phoenix, Arizona was blessed by Mannequin Pussy this past week, and goddamn did they not fuckin’ disappoint. They were joined by Soul Glo, a hardcore/punk band from Philly. They were also one of the sickest bands I’ve ever seen live.
Aside from the show only being a 2-band bill, the best part of the show was the energy that both bands brought. There was a moshpit within the first song that Soul Glo played, and that energy stayed until the very last song stopped. I also loved that it was an all-ages show, because the youth tend to be nicer to photographers. There’s also a stronger sense of togetherness & gratitude at all-ages shows. These kids are all there to escape, but they’re genuinely happy to be there and they’re not afraid to show it. They’re not showing up to cross their arms in the back and act like they don’t wanna be there.
This was my 2nd time shooting MP and it was under much better circumstances at a much better venue. One of the reasons Crescent is my favorite AZ venue is because of the size. It’s such a small & intimate venue, making for much better photos than some other venues.
Mannequin Pussy released a new album this year that also fucking rips. It’s super poppy and full of bop after bop. It’s some of the best stuff they’ve written thus far in my opinion, but I’m a sucker for a good pop riff.
Here are the photos I got of one of the most fun shows I’ve been to at Crescent. Don’t miss Mannequin Pussy & Soul Glo on the road this Spring!
