Last weekend The Van Buren in Phoenix hosted a monster of a show. Not only did we get Microwave, but we also got Origami Angel and Heart Attack Man. Not to mention the opener, Carpool Tunnel, who absolutely fucking RIPPED!
It was my 2nd time seeing Microwave and my first time seeing the rest of the bill. To be honest, Origami Angel is the real reason I wanted to see this show. The other bands were rad, but I became hyper-fixated on Origami Angel last year and I haven’t stopped since. Any band that is that good AND references Pokémon that much is my kind of band. There were crowd surfers and circle pits everywhere. The room had the energy of a packed DIY show. It was a fucking blast. It’s always such a relief to see bands bring that kind of energy to that sized venue. Shooting from the pit was a little risky, but it made for some pretty rad photos.
Microwave put on yet another killer show and made damn sure the crowd was equally as stoked. They’re one of those bands that I have no idea why I don’t listen to more. This show did give me a new appreciation for them and I’ve definitely been bumping them wayyy more since the show.
I was able to shoot from outside of the pit for a change, and that was pretty sick. Not that I don’t sneak photos from the pit anyways, but it was nice that I wouldn’t have gotten in trouble this time. I got some really rad photos of the youth crowd surfing and having the time of their little lives. It was cool to see.
Here are the photos I got from the show! Hope y’all enjoy looking at them as much as I did taking ’em!
