This tour is a very special one for various reasons. Not only is the line-up insane but it is also The Devil Wears Prada‘s 20th anniversary of being a band. With that being said, I was very excited to capture this event. I gathered my equipment and began driving to the event with joyous amounts of excitement. I arrived to the venue and instantly admired the Halloween decorations. There were giant skeletons and animatronics through out the entire space. Every corner you turned, you were greeted by spooky decorations. I started to assume that people would likely be dressed up for this show. I then walked to the front of the stage, filled with eagerness of what was to come next.
The first act, Greyhaven, is a four-piece metal band from Louisville, Kentucky. Their music is known for touching on various mental health issues. Even though I had never seen them before, I was curious what the band had to offer. The lead vocalist took the stage with determination on his face. He began jumping around and hyping up the crowd. Their performance was very entertaining; they were a perfect band to start the night.
The second band, Like Moths to Flames, is a metal-core band from Columbus, Ohio. The meaning of their name is very interesting to me. ‘Moths to flames’ is a metaphor meaning “inescapably allured by something harmful”. They were another band that I had not seen before but was eager to check out. The band walked onto the stage and jumped into their performance. Chris Roetter, the lead vocalist, was full of amazing energy. When he wasn’t screaming passionately, he was cracking jokes to the crowd. This helped everyone in the crowd to feel more welcomed and more comfortable. Overall, Like Moths to Flames was very entertaining and I was thoroughly impressed.
SeeYouSpaceCowboy, from San Diego, was the third act. The band plays a unique mix of Metalcore, Myspace Era Scencore, and “Sasscore,” a term I love. They entered the room and I was immediately drawn to the lead singer, Connie Sgarbossa. She walked out onto the stage with a sassy attitude and a smile across her face. She began dancing around and vibing with the crowd. The band followed suit and exuded energy and entertainment. In fact, the guitarists swung their guitars back and forth while they were performing, which was visually mesmerizing.
The fourth and final opener is a Metal band from Azusa, California, Silent Planet. This is one of those bands that I have admired for awhile now and I have watched continued to grow and become more popular over the years. I was so ecstatic to see their set. The lead vocalist, Garrett Russell, walked onto the stage barefoot. He continued the set with out shoes and I was all for it. As they were performing, I couldn’t help but notice that their sound was full of passionate poetry. The band were the perfect transition to introduce the main act.
As members of The Devil Wears Prada started to walk onto the stage, the crowd erupted. This is what they were here for. Each member assumed their positions and readied their instruments. The lead vocalist/guitarist, Mike Hranica, ran onto the stage with his arms up in the air with a huge smile plastered across his face. The band members all turned to look at each other and suddenly broke out into sound. A confetti blaster went off and white confetti fell down onto the crowd. The set was solid and the the band had visual chemistry throughout their entire performance.
The crowd was screaming the lyrics as people crowd surfing over their heads and to the barricade. I moved around a lot during the set, but it was only when I reached the balcony did I notice the various Halloween costumes in the pit, which continued strong throughout the entire show. I smiled as I noticed a Ghost face and Art the Clown moshing and pushing people around. As the show came to an end and the band left the stage, the crowd erupted into a call to bring them back for an encore. They returned and performed two more songs as the crowd screamed and shouted. By the end of the night, I was exhausted yet energized and I was so impressed by all of the bands’ sets.
