We’re mere hours away from the biggest punk fest that the US has to offer. The Fest in Gainesville starts at the end of this week . In preparation, we talked with Nick of Direct Hit! about pooping all the parties on Halloween, his “To See” list, and the best landmark eats on the drive down from Milwaukee.
Direct Hit! will be playing Pre-Fest at The Orpheum on Wednesday, October 25th at 9:30PM and playing at 8 Seconds at Fest on Friday, October 27th at 5:50PM.
Interview
How many years have you played or gone to Fest?
This is our fifth year in a row!
What is your favorite Fest memory?
Showing up our first year to a line out the door at 1982 was pretty unreal. We had no idea what to expect having never been to Fest before, and we were playing opposite Lagwagon. So we were just psyched to have free tickets, and didn’t figure we’d be playing to anyone. We’re the most spoiled band on the planet.
What is your favorite restaurant or type of food to eat either in Gainesville or in traveling to Fest?
I love stopping for landmark eats on the road trip down if I’m road tripping. Fried peach pies in Georgia are a fave. Hot chicken at Prince’s in Nashville. When I’m in Gainesville, it’s Boca Fiesta all the way.
What bands are on your “To See” list this year?
Career Suicide and DFMK are the only can’t-misses on my list. Thank god they’re playing in the same spot on Saturday. With Majority Rule no less!
Even though Fest does not fall on Halloween this year, will you be wearing a costume? If so, what?
No, I’m an enormous party pooper when it comes to Halloween. Sometimes I’ll buy a Tinkerbell or Sexy Cat costume if the mood strikes me, but every year I dress up I just end up freezing and itchy and pissed that I’m that much more broke. Don’t let my shit attitude ruin your fun though.
What cover sets are you stoked to see?
Has anyone picked Cannibal Corpse yet?
Do you have a Fest tattoo?
Nope!
Have you ever done a shoey?
Gross!
How you prepare for getting and deal with having that terrible post-Fest Flu?
My general health and well-being are an uphill battle every day. What’s Fest Flu?
