Pride Month is right around the corner, and while multinational corporations are beginning to clean eleven months’ worth of dust off of their rainbow logos, Bay Area band Middle-Aged Queers is dropping a new track. “This Song Is Sponsored By Absolut Vodka,” offers a sardonic critique of the commercialization of LGBTQ+ Pride Month. The single was originally released on a benefit vinyl compilation, Punk Rock Saves Lives…the Album! Vol. II.
This release kicks off a string of tour dates for Middle-Aged Queers, culminating in their first-ever string of — mostly all-ages — shows in the Pacific Northwest. Along the way they’ll open for punk-soul legends the BellRays at an Oakland venue recently overhauled by art film icon John Waters, play Seattle’s storied all-ages venue the Vera Project, and share the stage for Christian punks Ninety Pound Wuss’s first appearance in 23 years.
