On August 11th, The Gaslight Anthem toured through Chicago on their reunion tour which also celebrated the ten year anniversary of The ’59 Sound. The Riviera Theater was packed to the brim with mega fans who salivated at the chance to see TGA at least one more time.
SideOne Dummy record co-founder Joe Sib opened up the night with his punk rock dad brand style of comedy. Normally, the first opener would be the time where the fans would begin slowly trickling in. But the huge cavernous room in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood was already packed. So when Matt Mays (of The Guthries and Matt May & El Torpedo) took the stage, the room erupted. His band’s songs were received with ravenous applause over and over again.
And then it was the time that everyone had waited for. The Gaslight Anthem took the stage and opened with “Handwritten” and the crowd went buck mild. To my knowledge, all the members of the band have been touring heavily since the band went on hiatus back in 2015. But tonight, you’d never be able to guess that they had been on a three year break. They were flawless as they played their way through a handful of songs before launching into The ’59 Sound. Check out the below set list and photo gallery of the amazing night!
